Heber City, UT (August 02, 2021) – One person died on Sunday, August 1st when they lost control of their car in the center lane of traffic and struck two other vehicles. Five other people were transported to local hospitals.

The Department of Public Safety reported that a gray GMC pick-up truck was heading southbound along State Route 189 in the area of 3000 South, just outside of Heber City when it crossed over the two-way center turn lane and drove straight into oncoming northbound traffic.

At this time. It is not known why the GMC swerved but, as a result, it side-swiped a Ford pick-up truck and then struck a Volvo sports utility vehicle head-on.

The driver of the GMC died at the scene.

The deceased has not been identified, nor has anyone that was transported for medical care.

The injuries sustained by the other victims were not considered life-threatening.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Fatal Car Crashes in Heber City

An automobile accident happens every 10 minutes in Utah. Every 23 minutes, someone sustains a significant crash-related injury, and every 36 hours, someone is killed during one of these accidents.

Vehicle collisions have a disastrous impact on Utah residents. They are also one of the main causes of accidental deaths across the state. As reported by the Utah Highway Safety Office, there were 52,287 car accidents in Utah in 2012, which caused injuries to 22,325 victims and the deaths of 243 more. 2012 was also the year with the lowest rate of vehicular fatalities since 1974.

Car accidents are the fourth most common cause of accidental deaths in the United States and the cause of two million crash victims sustaining injuries or a lifelong handicap. The state of Utah, in an average year, sees about 52,000 vehicle wrecks, 22,000 of which cause some degree of injury to their victims. Another 250 of these collisions end in at least one fatality.

Serious traffic collisions are the number one cause of critical injuries and accidental deaths in the state of Utah. The most common factors associated with these fatal crashes are drivers who failed to stay in their proper lane (35%), drivers and passengers who are not buckled up (34%), and speeding (42%).
