Eagle Mountain, UT (February 25, 2022) – At least one person sustained crash-related injuries after their involvement in a vehicle collision on State Route 73 on Friday, February 25th.
According to officials from Utah County, the accident took place in the westbound lanes of State Route 73 at the Mt. Airey Drive intersection and caused the closure of multiple lanes of traffic.
Emergency medical services physically assessed those involved in the collision and rendered the appropriate medical treatment or transportation to the injured victims.
Emergency responders worked with crash investigators to shut down the immediate area in order to investigate the cause of the collision and to clear vehicle debris from the highway.
At this time, investigations surrounding the accident are ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the victims injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.
As stated in an in-depth study directed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2,307,000 car accidents took place at intersections in 2008, accounting for 40% of all motor vehicle accidents nationwide. This indicates that almost half of the nation’s car crashes occur in intersections.
In that same year, Utah’s 58 fatal intersection accidents constituted 21.2% of its car accident-related deaths, denoting a 6.5% reduction when compared to 2016.
Even without design flaws, like obscured street signage or potholes, intersections present unique hazards for drivers in Utah. There are often several drivers, bicycle riders, and/or pedestrians traveling at different speeds in different directions, and some intersections have up to six lanes all coming together. Intersection accidents, even at slow speeds, are capable of causing serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.
