Cedar City, UT (June 28, 2022) – A single-vehicle rollover indirectly led to a three-car accident after one vehicle rear-ended another while trying to bypass slowing traffic on Monday, June 28th.

At about 1:50 p.m., troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol responded to reports of a vehicle rollover on Interstate 15 near milepost 92 when a southbound Honda Civic blew a tire. The driver overcorrected, causing the car to overturn.

At that moment, a Chevrolet Suburban was nearing the area with the slowed traffic. The driver looked to her left to see if she was able to pass and crashed into the back of a Honda Accord, which was shoved into the front tire of a Ford F150.

The driver and passenger in the Civic were taken by Gold Cross Ambulance to a local medical facility with non-critical injuries.

The occupants of the vehicles involved in the subsequent collision were all unharmed.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Passenger Injuries in Utah Car Accidents

Pursuing financial compensation for accident damages can be more than a little bit challenging for injured victims who were not driving the vehicle. When the car you are a passenger in is involved in an accident, victims have some choices available to them as they seek compensation for their injuries.

No matter the scenario, Personal Injury Protection coverage will be used first and will cover initial medical costs of at least $3,000 per passenger in every accident.

According to state law, all vehicles registered in Utah are required to have an insurance policy with no less than $3,000 in personal injury protection coverage for each passenger for each accident. This coverage stems from the automobile’s insurance policy.

In terms of financial compensation, a victim will always turn to the insurer of the car they were riding in when the accident took place. It does not matter if they were both the owner and the driver of the vehicle, if they borrowed the vehicle and were driving it, or if they were a passenger in a vehicle being driven by someone who borrowed it or the owner.

If the injured passenger has not recuperated by the time money from PIP runs out, they will have to file a bodily injury claim against the at-fault driver.
