American Fork, UT (June 21, 2021) – A 9-year-old boy was found dead on Wednesday, July 20, after police say he was left inside a hot car in the American Fork area.

American Fork officers responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. after the child was found inside the vehicle by witnesses. The vehicle was parked outside of a business, authorities reported. Lt. Police spokesperson Josh Christensen said that the boy was in the car for up to two hours before he was discovered.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene and rushed the child to an area medical center, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Christensen said that the car was turned off, the windows were rolled up, and the doors were closed.

The vehicle was parked outside of Roost Services, an organization that helps youths and adults with developmental disabilities, on 42 North 200 East. Christensen said that initial reports indicated the boy was picked up and brought here by a Roost staff member, though he says multiple individuals were involved in his transport.

Police said an investigation is ongoing, and officers have not yet determined whether charges will be filed.

We would like to offer our condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
